How does one become a make-up artist?

What are the steps? How does one become a make-up artist?
PRACTICE. Doing make-up is just like a painting, except you're doing it on a face. You'll get better if you practice. How does one become a make-up artist?
You don't have to go to school... I didn't go to school and I get lots of freelance jobs. =/ I am going to school though in the next couple of months. I probably won't learn anything but to get a ';certificate'; so I can get a job at an actual makeup place, and have ';experience';.

The honest answer on what it takes to become one: Practice, on different faces, eyes, everyones canvas is different so you have to be able to work with someone who has a really defined crease, or someone who has no crease. Someone who has 2-3 chins, someone with a really pointy face. You have to be able to alter any face shape to the ideal oval face. You need to know how to sculpt and shape and do whatever. If you can do all that you're set.
You need to talk like a regular person. I mean, your using a silver tounge. Talk less formal. Well, you need to practice. If you are still in middle, or high school, you need to practice on other people or yourself. Then, when going to college, make sure you apply for ones that focus mainly on cosmetology.
