What is the difference between a make-up artist and a cosmetologist?
I don't understand, what are the differences between these two? What is the difference between a make-up artist and a cosmetologist?
I believe you have to go to school as a cosmetologist in order to become a makeup artist. Cosmetology teaches everything; hair, nails, makeup, etc. You need a cosmetology license in order to work as a professional hair or makeup stylists. The process usually takes six months to a year, depending on certain requirements that vary from state to state. I think it's better if you know how to do a little bit of everything. It increases the jobs you can take on.What is the difference between a make-up artist and a cosmetologist?
A Cosmetologist is Taught Makeup, nails And MOSTLY hair!!!
You DONT need to be a cosmetologist to become a makeup artist!! They Have Makeup Schools for that , And in reality you dont NEED To have any training to be a makeup artist But it helps!!!
A cosmetologist ONLY is taught makeup that will get them to pass the State Board test it wont teach fashion or tricks or tips on how to apply it best! (TRust me I went to both cosmetology %26amp; Makeup School)
In Order to do Hair %26amp; Get paid You have to have a License in hair (Cosmetology)
If you want to be a Makeup artist A Liscence is not REQUIRED but it helps so does a certificate!!!
Cosmetology is Hair, Nails and Skin..When you become a Cosmetologist, You will be licensed in all three, Skin includeds Make up.
Make up is just that. Make up. You may or may not have to be licensed in Make up. Depends on the state.
Make-up artists specialize in strictly make-up. A cosmetologist works with hair, nails, make-up and skincare, and sometimes muscle massage. An esthetician works mainly with skincare and sometimes make-up.
cosmotoligist does everything, nails, makeup, hair. makeup artist doesonly makeup. hope i helped
cosmetology is a combination of nails hair and makeup. but mostly focuses on hair.

How to pay for a MAKE UP ARTIST?
I am planning to open up a kiosk that sells beauty supplies; therefore, I need to hire make up artist. How do they get paid. Meaning paid hourly or commission? Any suggestions would be appreciated. How to pay for a MAKE UP ARTIST?
Any kiosk that opens in a mall pays employees by commission and not by an hourly wage. This is because you are trying to sell a product, and so the employee has to be motivated enough to be able to convince people to buy the product. that's why whenever you walk by a kiosk, they badger you constantly. And also, if employees get hourly wages, then if they are unable to sell products, the company actually loses a large profit. It's the same thing with car companies, they are paid on commission. How to pay for a MAKE UP ARTIST?
Uhm.. I have no experience in this, but my guess would be either an hourly wage or piece work (ie. a set amount for each person they make up or something like that) or some combination of the two, such as a low hourly wage, with an additional sum for each customer or something like that.
Just my thoughts. :)

As a freelance make-up artist where should I buy affordable make-up particularly different foundation shades?
I'm pursuing my passion of make-up and am looking to find where I can buy affordable quality make-up and supplies to use in my business. As a freelance make-up artist where should I buy affordable make-up particularly different foundation shades?
clinique ?As a freelance make-up artist where should I buy affordable make-up particularly different foundation shades?
Dora,
I recommend what I use: Coonobabe
they have a selection of liquid and powder foundations.
I use them because, they are made in USA, don't test on animals and ship all orders for free. So I hope this helps you.
Google Coonobabe
Another brand I use is Isabella Pelle
they have incredible lip plumpers glosses
Google Isabella Pelle
this company also ships for free all orders and does not test on animals.
www.costalscents.com is a great, affordable makeup site.
http://www.marykay.com/hporchea
If your looking for super affordable then try somewhere like target. Sometimes when places like macy's and other department stores have makeup sales and promos you can get good deals like gifts with purchases. Also maybe try Avon or Mary Kay. Maybe they can give you a discount for being a makeup artist and recommending their products.
Here it is http://www.amazon.com/gp/redirect.html?i鈥?/a>

How do I go about becoming a make-up artist, I'm almost 18, how should I start?
I'd really like to go to make-up school, not so much a full cosmetology license. I'd like to get a head start so I can start working at 18. Any advice or tips? I love MAC and Sephora, and I'm already good at applying and creating new looks. How do I go about becoming a make-up artist, I'm almost 18, how should I start?
You need to first and FOREMOST decide what you want to do in regards to area of work, it is very important and I will explain why.
Do you want to work on film/t.v sets, do photographic(photo shoot) work, or do you want to work in a Salon/Spa?
If you want to become a make-up artist in the film and t.v industry, I would recommend a course where all make-up techniques are covered and so you will gain knowledge of what colours to use, skin types, etc and you will be able to quickly and effectively build a portfolio of work as well as gaining a qualification/certificate.
Although I must point out to you, and I know this from experience, working in the film and t.v industry is WHO YOU KNOW, not WHAT YOU KNOW. Having an absolutely fabulous portfolio of your work and a few certificates is great but it won't help you in that area, obviously I have pointed out doing a course, but this is if you want to further yourself in regards to skills, and also prove yourself to some degree.
I finally got t.v work, but this was because I knew someone who worked on the set, not for my qualifications or training.
Photographic work, working on photo shoots is a bit easier. It usually goes where you email/contact a Photographer, and you show them examples of your work and they will decide whether to use you on a set.
If you want to work in a shop, on a make-up counter, or want to work in a salon/spa, you NEED to have some kind of beauty qualification, I don't know where you live or if the name is different to here in the UK but to work in a salon/spa over here, having only a make-up qualification/training will not get you in there.
However, If you have waxing, manicure, pedicure, facial, etc etc training as well, then your chances are a lot higher because you are not narrowed down to work.
Make sure the pictures you take of your work are good quality for your portfolio, it will help with presentation if you are going to show potential employers.
Hard work is the key to be honest, and determination. Trust me, the make up industry is extremely competitive and extremely hard to get into. I wish you the best of luck.
xxxHow do I go about becoming a make-up artist, I'm almost 18, how should I start?
if you think you got skill apply for mac, they take people who dont have school backing. um if you want to go to just a makeup school like http://www.mud.edu/ which is based in LA and NY.
I would go to college to become a makeup artist. Look around at fashion design schools.
You might want to work somewhere while you go to cosmetology school and then you can get a job that requires a license later. You'll need a license most likely to be able to be a make-up artist.
This may be long winded...
First decide what kind of makeup artist you want to be, or where you want to work.
If you are thinking of working in a spa or salon... you need a cosmetology school.
If you want to work in Film, tv, and fashion, then there are a lot of schools specific for that. You won't need a license either.
( I went the film route)
Each route has it's pluses and minuses.
With a cosmetology license you'll have more job opportunities, but you won't just be doing make-up.
With film work, it's a lot more creative, but landing jobs and having a stable income is harder. I recommend M.U.D. school, or Blasco. You can also start working right now, by looking for indie or student film projects to gain experience. ( of course you'll probably have to work for free for a bit.)
Good Luck

How much does a make up artist charge for each make up application?
im going to be doing my friends make up for her wedding, hers i will be doing for free shes a close friend.......but a couple of bridesmaids want their make up done as well how much do i charge them??? i would like to charge individually. thanks so muchHow much does a make up artist charge for each make up application?
My friend who's in college does makeup for fun and she charged all the girls in her old high school $15 for a full face for prom.
My mom, on the other hand, is a professional makeup artist and has different rates. But for something like this I think she'd charge $30 - $40 for bridesmaid.
Good Luck!
