Difference between a ';freelance'; make up artist and a ';professional'; make up artist?

Im just wondering i went to cosmo school i just didnt get my license. im more interested in doing make up but do i have to have a certificate in order to be considered a ';professional'; as far as i know you dont necessarily need to be certified to be a make up artist. right? thanks for your help!Difference between a ';freelance'; make up artist and a ';professional'; make up artist?
theyre kind of totally different things, freelance pretty much means that you find your own work and dont belong to a union or anything.

a professional is well...kinda self explanatory.

it means youre educated in makeup artistry and qualified to do it....and you use it as a means of livelihood i guess...Difference between a ';freelance'; make up artist and a ';professional'; make up artist?
Depending on the rules and regulation of the state you live in, you may be able to be a ';freelance'; makeup artist (i.e. no license) for photo shoots, on-location weddings, headshots, portfolio work, etc.

You need a license (not merely a certificate) if you want to do hair/makeup in a salon or in a salon setting. You will not be hired unless you have one (state board rules).

';Professional'; merely states that you are paid for your services, regardless if you have license, certificate, etc.
Generally if you are not licensed you shouldn't call yourself ';professional,'; since technically you don't have any qualifications.

Once you have a good resume and plenty of references, then you could think of calling yourself professional.

I also went to cosmo school and didn't get my license.
