I am looking on where I can find information on becoming a make-up artist. I don't really have the money for school and I'm only looking to do this on the side. Any tips please? ThanksI need tips on where I can start becoming a make-up artist however I can not afford to go to school. Any Tips?
I don't know much about makeup and consider myself challenged in all areas of personal primping (that's why professionals are required) .... but ....
Don't all of the makeup companies that offer sales in your home (Mary K, Avon, etc) offer training for their new recruits?
It's not exactly what you're looking for maybe but it would be an opportunity to help women discover their best look and make some money at the same time. You could even pay for school with what you make as a representative for one of these companies.
I've known Mary K rep's who worked in community theater as makeup artists (volunteer only).
I do NOT recommend charging anyone for your services as a makeup artist without proper licensing. You need education in all kinds of areas, including; diseases of the skin, eyes, etc, hygiene, proper care of products, %26amp; so much more. You also need a business license.
If you try to advertise and work without a license, licensed makeup artists will turn you in to the Makeup Artist Police. You could be in hot water, lose any chance of ever becomming licensed, and possibly in trouble with Uncle Sam for tax issues.
Cosmetology school can be expensive but scholarships are always available.
If this is your passion, isn't it worth doing it right?I need tips on where I can start becoming a make-up artist however I can not afford to go to school. Any Tips?
It completely depends on your state if you need a license. You may want to check into that first. If you wanted to so it full time, I would recommend you starting by assisting more established artists but if you only want to do it on the side ... then that seems like a waste of everyones time. I don't even know what you mean by on the side ... this is a very hard business to get into and people work for years building up their skills and contacts just to get regular work ... you won't get a print ad or filmwork by doing it on the side. It's a all or nothing, dog eat dog world.
well u cant be a makeup artist without having your licence, school is not expensive at all. i just graguated from school and now work at M.A.C .. which i love and i know u can not do anyones makeup with out a licence..
If you can't afford to go to school, it always helps to look in fashion magazines to help you out. Look at the different ways to apply makeup and the different makeup you can use. Practice these skills on a doll or on your friends. :)
Hope this helps!
Or, you can search on www.wikipedia.com or www.google.com or www.ask.com to learn about being a makeup artist! Good luck to you!
