I'm 'fresh' makeup artist and I really want to get some experiences with the best people within! How, who to choose and how to find the greatest? How to start as make up artist with the best stylist?
work at a dept. store make up counter or in a salon
then, as you're doing that build a portfolio by asking friends to be your models and do all sorts of creative things with their make up and either you or someone you know who is a good photographer, take pics of what you do and sometimes how you go about doing it
also, read up on different make up artists. i can recommend 2 that have published books: the late KEVIN AUCOIN and Revlon executive: ALFRED FORNAY.
once you build a nice portfolio and get some experience under your belt, you can start sending resumes and cover letters to places/people you would like to work for and study with. in your cover letter, request an interview. and even if they are not hiring as that they keep your resume and contact you should a position open up.How to start as make up artist with the best stylist?
if you get a job as a makeup artist for an acting troupe, or as an apprentice to a makeup artist, you will get a lot of experience an d meet a whole lot of people. good luck!
Advertise... I would post my information in department stores if you are able to. And word of mouth is the best advertisement. But I would really look into MAC stores. You get a lot of exposure there. And before you know it, you will be building a clientele
Get a job with MAC cosmetics. They train all of their staff.
You may have mad skills but take a course and learn all the basics and corrective techniques. Also i recommend that you buy Making Faces a book about the make up artistry of and written by Kevin Aucoin, who in my opinion was the best glamor make up artist ever!
Working in a department store for a brand like Lancome, Clinique, Chanel, Estee Lauder, etc. would put you out there and get exposure.
You could also find volunteer opportunities that while you will be helping others, you will be gaining valuable experience and networking at the same time.
