To become a beautician/make-up artist, would you have to go to College?

My dream job is to either be a make-up artist or a beautician, if I tend to go to college, what would be the difference to when I don't go to college?To become a beautician/make-up artist, would you have to go to College?
Well not really but you do have to go to institutes ans schools. There, you get lessons and courses about colors, beauty, products, mixtures, skin types, combination etc.. No college. You need to go to Cosmetology School, If you don't get licensed, Then you can't work in a Salon, or anywhere in the beauty Industry. In some states, They don't require you to have a license for Make up Artistry, But it is nice to take a few courses(Which, usually would be Esthetics, if you want to be licensed.) to help you out some and get certified.

Many companies or should I say, almost all companies are requiring applicants to have finished college. You should take your college just in case you didn't achieve that job. Like a back-up plan. There are courses for being a beautician but I think they're only side courses.
To be a makeup artist, the proper name is Estitician, at least in CA, and you won't only learn how to apply some types of makeup, but you also learn how to do manicures/ pedicures, and waxing.





Cosmetologist (beautician) requires a bit more time studying, and with that you learn a bit of everything, including makeup application, and perhaps the basics of waxing/nails, but you're mostly focusing on hair.





Search on Yahoo! or wherever you usually search, and type in, ';Beauty Schools in ______';. They should come up with a listing of surrounding beauty schools. Beauty Colleges are vocational schools, not actual universities where you can earn say, a degree in criminology, unless your local community college offers those classes at the college. Either way, it is still a vocational career.

you go to cosmetology school...like the Salon Professional Academy or something...there are tons of schools for that, but it's a technical college type deal...
You do not need a degree of any kind to become a beautician or makeup artist. A good beautician school (usually about 1 year) would help but not a requirement. What you need to be very successful in this field is talent and 'on the job training'. Plenty of beautician schools offer graduation certificates which also can be attained by attendance on a part time basis. This is a great idea. You attend school possible 2 days or nights per week. And you work as an apprentice beautician on a part time basis. You get schooling in the field and experience in the field. Give it a shot. Best of Luck.

It depends on her talent and where she wants to live. She could go work in the movie industry or specialize in weddings and do quite well. Right now, is not a good time to be in the field but maybe that will change fast if the economy improves. My hairdresser says that business is down 40% at her salon because of the economy.





Anyway, your sister does seem like a natural artist and she may not be happy doing anything else even if it pays better. She might be one of those people who enjoy beings around people and making them look better and feel better about themselves. If she were my sister, I would advise her to develop other skills while in cosmotology school such as skincare, hair, and/or nails. There is some money to be made in doing acne facials and microdermabrasion right now even if that is not her favorite thing to do. And good skin comes before good makeup.





PS: My niece recently chose not to go to college and she is in beauty school right now. It was heart-breaking for my sister who had her heart set on having her number 1 daughter go to college. When I was in 7th grade I did a research project and my topic was cosmetology and it seems like a really fun job, but they don't make the good money. . . they make enough to live off of but that's about all. And It shouldn't be that hard for her to get a job, just as long as she passes cosmetology school.
She could have a good job if she starts working at salons and getting her name out there. If she's really good with her stuff, then she can even start her own business (but working at a high/well known-salon can also open doors for her as well). As long as she stays and school and gets as much experience as she can, more doors will open for her.

Its a 7 week evening course, 4 nights a week, and teaches make up, hair, nails and eyebrows, but then there is London school of Beauty and Make up which is every saturday for 10 weeks and 拢1000, and just does make up and eyebrows. no, not at all...in cosmetology courses you dont get much makeup, you are only required to complete abour 10 hrs of makeup...its not as detailed. One of my friends went to make up school first, then she decided to take cosmetology. :) it's up to you. =]

1. If you're not a pro, I would choose concealer first in case the concealer color don't blend well with the foundation color. If you apply foundation first, you should mix the concealer with the foundation before applying it that is if you're using a liquid foundation.


2. No, yellow tone cancels out blue and green cancels out red. However, you have to blend it really well so the color difference won't be obvious. You might need to mix it with a little foundation if the color difference is too much.


3. Bronzers are usually a little darker than your natural skin tone.

-This is preference. If the person doesn't need much coverage, I'll do the foundation first to see if that evens out the problem. If not, conceal the areas that need it. Otherwise if they really need coverage, concealer first, foundation, then top it off with more concealer, again, if needed.

-Yes, of course. The point of concealer is the conceal whatever problems you might have and to match your skin tone. If you got a different shade, it would show. It you have redness however, neutralize it first before foundation with a green (you can buy colour wheels anywhere).





3. Bronzer should it also match my skin tone





-Not so much ';match'; as your goal is to give the skin a healthy glow. If you are fair skinned, I would use maybe a shade darker (nothing lighter then you already are), but stay within the range. Obviously for someone who is fair, you wouldn't be using a bronzer that is made for dark skin. Remember, with bronzer, a little goes a long way. Use a big powder dome brush to sweep colour over the areas that naturally would get the sun (cheekbones, chin, sides of nose, forehead..you get the idea). Remember to blend it into your neck however as normally the neck and face are two different skin shades. The last thing you need is to have a dark face and light neck!

Concealer goes first. Then the foundation then your powder. Your concealer should be one to two shades lighter than your skin tone to cover redish splotches better. Bronzer should be one to two shades darker than your skin tone and only lightly brush onto your T zone. (Forehead, nose, and chin.)

As far as tipping goes, I always ask. Usually, they cannot accept tips, but they like you to buy something. Personally, I have never been to a make up counter that accepts tips, but I am sure it depends on where you are. It really depends on the counter. Lancome, for instance, does not require you to purchase anything, (at least not the ones I have been to), but as a courtesy I always do. Chanel, on the other hand, requires a minimum purchase. I say no! Free is free, he most certainly would not expect to be tipped for such a service. He gets paid for these demos by the make up company. I've never heard of any body tipping a make up artist in a department store. If, however, you go to a salon and see a licensed estetician, then yes you would tip him.
If they go out of there way to be extremely helpful and it impresses you then it is a nice gesture. However it is not necessary or expected. Also some places will not allow them to accept tips as demonstration is a part of there job.
